Anne Serling January 26“Almost all of my father’s closing narrations end with the phrase, The Twilight Zone. The message of this episode, however, was clearly so important to him, so central to his passion, that he felt the need to go beyond the fantasy.
‘The Dachaus, the Belsens, the Buchenwalds, the Auschwitzes—all of them. They must remain standing because they are a monument to a moment in time when some men decided to turn the Earth into a graveyard. Into it they shoveled all of their reason, their logic, their knowledge, but worst of all, their conscience. And the moment we forget this, the moment we cease to be haunted by its remembrance, then we become the gravediggers. Something to dwell on and remember, not only in The Twilight Zone but wherever men walk God’s earth.’”

Reading your posts, I am thankful there is an Internet, where old and new folks to the majick your dad brought, can find a place to keep echoing his message of hope and imagination... I was thinking of this episode earlier today, and how the guard who once laughed--got his Karma...
I would sneak out of bed, hearing the theme,as a young child. I hid while my Mom watched the TZ. It taught me very good lessons(and sometimes scared me! My Mom had warned me "Not to watch!" After awhile, she gave up & let me watch, later she asked me what I learned. We had some good talks, about Mr Bemis(Time Enough) And the Midnight sun,my 2 favs, and many others. Thanks for sharing things about your Dad!

The Twilight Zone..brilliant series. Thought provoking indeed. Well written, and well produced. Rod Serling, amazing writer, ahead of his time. These stories have stood the test of time and are still as popular now as ever, with new generations.

Thanks Meryl. My dad would have been touched and so surprised to know how his writing endured.
